Biography:
Dave Cortex is an accomplished DJ and producer with over a decade of experience in the electronic music industry. Based out of Washington DC, Dave is known for his unique yet relevant house sound that fuses funk and melodies with driving grooves. While generally classified as progressive house, Dave’s music is not easily pigeonholed and has been supported by a wide variety of prominent artists including Dirty Vegas, Eddie Halliwell, Tom Novy, Pole Folder, DJ Dan, Thomas Penton, Jaytech and many others. DJing since 1999, Dave made a name for himself locally during the early 2000’s by hosting his own parties and winning several area DJ competitions. He quickly caught the attention of the DC’s largest promotion companies and nightclubs, and was frequently invited to perform as the opening or closing DJ for artists such as BT, Nick Warren, Josh Wink, Roger Sanchez and others. He was often booked at the famed Buzz parties at Nation - the US’s most renowned superclub night of that era; and played other high-profile events such as Baltimore’s Starscape festival. By the mid-2000’s, Dave felt he had done everything he could with local DJing, and wasn’t feeling challenged anymore. So he decided to finally learn something that had long interested and intimidated him – music production. Taking a large break from the constant clubbing of his youth, Dave isolated himself and worked every day on learning the art. After a few frustrating years, he eventually began to have confidence in his new-found skills and saw his first release in 2007. Since then, Dave has gone on to release music on many respected labels such as Nellie Recordings, System Recordings, Witty Tunes, Silk and others, including his own imprint Sweet Cherry Music. His music has been heard on every possible format imaginable, including FM stations around the globe (including the UK’s KISS FM); XM Satellite Radio; and popular internet stations such as Proton and Frisky. Shows that have featured his music include “Anjunabeats Worldwide”, Jody Wisternoff’s “Way Out There” and others. His music has also been included on CD compilations from Donald Glaude and Paul Anthony. But Dave is still just getting started. Working constantly on perfecting his sound and finding new ways to be innovative with music, Dave Cortex's future looks quite bright indeed.
